2 Jews, 3 Opinions: The New Sanhedrin

Disclosure Vs. Discretion

Monday, February 25, 7pm
Coral Gables Art Cinema
260 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables

This New Sanhedrin program is a co-presentation of the Coral Gables Art Cinema and Next@19th.

(See Yossi screening times below)

A film like "Yossi," that paints a realistic portrait of the lives of gay men in an ever evolving Israeli society, calls out for a wider discussion, and that's exactly what tonight's forum will be. It takes the form of a "New Sanhedrin," a modern take on the traditional legislative debates in early Jewish life, and will look at the ethics and politics of coming out, Israeli values and the military.

Yossi is put on trial by the The New Sanhedrin, damages are sought by Jagger's parents - and we all have a say.

Next@19th's New Sanhedrin is a modern system of argument based on the principles of the original Sanhedrin of the early Rabbis. Programs address today's most challenging issues. All are welcome: come vote with their feet, moving from side to side as the arguments progress.

On-Going Saturday Morning Programs

Joseph’s Table, every Shabbat morning, 10:30 - 12:30, a roundtable discussion focusing on a selected passage of Jewish text (Torah, Talmud, Midrash, contemporary commentary, etc). Our spiritual leader prepares text as a jumping off point into a completely participatory discussion. The experience is a weaving of spiritual Torah teachings into a wonderfully textured fabric. Each learning is complete in itself, so you can come whenever and as often as you like.

Torah Table: Text & Togetherness is a family learning program with monthly gatherings coinciding with Next@19th’s adult study program, Joseph's Table at Next@19th. As a process of inter-generational learning involving one-on-one study between kids and adults from different families , no matter what age or extent of literacy, everyone has something to gain from this experience.

We meet from 10:30am to 11:30am on scheduled dates to be announced. Please join us for any and/or all of the following Shabbat morning gatherings at Next@19th, 137 NE 19th Street.
